Today I want to give you a quick start guide of all the gear that I use to make my YouTube videos. Of course, I am not the be all, end all. There are things that I will want to upgrade as I go along, but for right now, what I use really works well for me. So here we go!!
The camera that I’ve been using for awhile now is my phone. Up until recently I was using a Samsung S5, but I just upgraded to an S7 Edge. I still use my S5 for when I do multiple camera angles, but for the most part I have switched to the new phone. I HIGHLY recommend using your phone! You probably already have it, and you won’t have to spend any extra money on it, and most of them can record in HD now! If you want to blow some cash on a new camera, do some major research! 🙂
I use a Snowball Microphone. This is a VERY popular mic for streaming and YouTube. I highly recommend it, if only because the price is on point! I got mine for $45 on Ebay, and I’ve been using it since the beginning. It was the first big purchase that I made for my channel, and I’ve never regretted it. Look around a little bit before you buy, though. It is so popular which has helped make it easier to find, so you may be able to get a good deal!
Since I have been using a Mac computer for a long time now, I’m very used to Mac programs. I started off on iMovie, but eventually got Final Cut Pro. Final Cut has worked great for me, but there are a ton of programs out there that are also pretty awesome. Adobe Premier Pro is a good one, that I’ve seen great reviews on, and there are TONS of tutorials on YouTube on how to use them.
I use a webcam to stream on YouTube and Twitch, and when I do, I use the Logitech C920. It is basically what everyone uses right now. Logitech just recently upgraded their line, but the C920 competes very well with the new camera, and it is very simple to use. It literally just gets plugged in. I didn’t have to get any drivers or anything. I love it when things are this simple!
When I bought my lighting I went to Ebay, which is where I buy most of the stuff I use for my business. The main reason for that is because when its time for taxes, everything is right there on Paypal. It’s awesome. Anyway, the lighting that I got, this is literally a picture of what I bought. It was $50 on Ebay, and the long arm stand is where I put my camera when I’m recording. The two smaller stand-up lights are where I keep my lighting and the long one is what I use to record. This means that I have an extra umbrella and light just in case anything ever happens. What I search for online for this is “3 White Umbrella Softbox Boom Stand Light Kit Studio Photography Photo Equipment” which will help you being able to find it. The long armed stand is called a Boom Stand, which took FOREVER for me to figure out as a non-photographer. 🙂
Let me know if there are other supplies you’d like me to write about. I would love to edit and keep adding to this! The next few posts will probably be How-To guides on YouTube, so stay tuned. I’m not really sure, simply because of the holiday. Let me know what you would like to see, and I’ll talk to you later! 🙂 🙂
